Years and years ago, in the 70s, early 80s on the Lower East Side of Manhattan in NYC, a treacherously dangerous drug-infested area, there was a brand name foil packet of cocaine that was being sold along with the many brand name $10 bags of heroin (most of which was good quality) but the $5 foils of coke, with the tongue-in-cheek brand name of "7-up" was killing the addicts who loved injecting speedballs. A mixture of however many $10 bags of heroin, mixed together with however many $5 foils of "7-up" and injected together for the ultimate intensely alternating rush. But it was soon discovered that only the $5 foils of "7-up" were killing people, mostly through respiratory arrest, heart attack or major and paralyzing stroke. Lots of different measures were being taken to educate addicts on the street to avoid injecting the "7-up" but very few listened. Addicts continually used it and suffered the consequences until a drug raid finally one day shut down the crew who was distributing the "7-up". What is it that compels addicts to basically commit suicide in these types of situations?

A simple enough question: In view of the extensive, and disgusting damage that this "drug" does to people who use it, what is it that compels addicts to even try it once? It's so obvious and the destruction is so severe, WHAT makes anybody think they can use it and not fall victim to the destruction.
